If you’re looking for a beach destination that’s also dog-friendly, Illinois is a great place to look. There are several dog beaches in the state where your furry friend can run around and play in the sand. Here are some of the best ones.
Chicago dog beaches
Most beaches in Chicago allow dogs at their beaches as long as they remain leashed. However there are a few off-leash dog beaches in the Chicago area:
Montrose Dog Beach
This is the largest dog-friendly beach in Chicago, and also the most popular. Throughout the summer, you may find hundreds of dogs gathering at this beach. Parking can be found nearby the beach, however spots can fill up very quickly on summer weekends, so try to get to the beach early. You can also park on Uptown neighborhood streets, but be aware that some streets require a visitor sticker depending on the time of the day and day of the week.
Belmont Harbor Dog Beach
Tucked away from the bike path along Belmont Harbor, this small dog beach is only about 100 feet wide, but offers a great secluded place to bring your dog in Chicago.
Jackson Bark
Located on Chicago’s south side near the Museum of Science and Industry, Jackson Bark is a dog park that is located near 57th street beach and 63rd street beach. You can bring your dog to the dog park and then walk over to either of these beaches where they must remain leashed.
